Antique photographs
Many 19th-century portrait photographs were produced as albumen prints and mounted on secondary paper supports.
Over time these backing materials often become acidic and brittle, causing the photograph to fragment or detach from its support. Conservation treatment stabilizes the fragile paper layers while preserving the original photographic image.
Unlike digital photo editing, conservation treatment preserves the original historic photograph using archival materials and reversible methods.
